LVPEI Researchers Shine in Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% World Scientists Rankings 2025

The prestigious 2025 Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List, released recently, recognize the top-performing researchers worldwide based on standardized citation metrics. The L V Prasad Eye Institute(LVPEI) has once again demonstrated its global leadership in ophthalmology research with seven LVPEI associated clinician-scientists making it to the lifetime rankings and 15 making it to the annual rankings 2025.
Dr Gullapalli N Rao, Founder Chair – LVPEI is second in the top lifetime rankings for ophthalmology in India. This recognition is based on his career-long research impact and annual performance in 2024, reaffirming his status as India's leading scientist in ophthalmology.
The Stanford/Elsevier rankings identify scientists in the top 2% globally, evaluated by career-long and single-year citation data. For 2025, an impressive 61 Indian ophthalmologists made the annual rankings, with 15 affiliated to LVPEI, reflecting the growing excellence and international standing of LVPEI research.

This recognition places LVPEI researchers among the most influential scientists in their field, representing robust, world-class research output from India. The continued upward trajectory of LVPEI and Indian ophthalmologists in global rankings underscores India’s position as a powerhouse of innovative, impactful eye research.

Jointly developed by Stanford University and Elsevier, the Top 2% Scientists List is based on composite citation scores indexed in Scopus as of August 2025. The calculation includes career-long and single-year metrics, adjustments for self-citation, and fair comparisons across scientific subfields, ensuring rigorous and transparent recognition of global research excellence.
