Gurunanak CARE Hospitals Leads Diabetes Awareness Walk on World Diabetes Day

Gurunanak CARE Hospitals marked World Diabetes Day by organising a Diabetes Awareness Walk to promote early detection, lifestyle modification, and preventive care. The walk began at Gurunanak CARE Hospitals, proceeded up to the RTC Cross Road, and returned to the hospital premises.

The walk was led by Dr. KS Mionuddin, Senior Consultant – General Medicine, along with Dr. G. Surya Prakash, Senior Consultant Cardiologist & Regional Clinical Director; Dr.Srinivas Kandula, Senior Endocrinologist; Dr. Imran Khan, Consultant – General Medicine; Dr. Srilatha Dwaram, Consultant - Critical Care Medicine; and Dr. Bharathi Jetti, Chief Operating Officer, Gurunanak CARE Hospitals. Senior doctors, hospital staff, and local residents actively participated, reinforcing the message that community-driven awareness can significantly reduce the burden of diabetes.

Dr. KS Mionuddin, Senior Consultant – General Medicine, said, “A significant number of individuals live with diabetes without realising it, and by the time symptoms become noticeable, complications may have already begun. Early screening and consistent monitoring are absolutely essential. Along with timely diagnosis, people must adopt healthier lifestyle practices—such as walking regularly, controlling their diet, avoiding processed foods, and maintaining a proper sleep routine. Awareness drives like today’s walk help people understand that diabetes is not just a sugar problem but a condition that affects the heart, kidneys, nerves, and eyes. With the right knowledge and timely action, it can be effectively controlled.”

Dr. Srinivas Kandula, Senior Endocrinologist, emphasised, “India is rapidly becoming the diabetes capital of the world, and most cases are linked to sedentary habits, stress, and unhealthy eating. What people don’t realise is that early detection can prevent up to 70% of long-term complications. Through this awareness walk, our aim is to encourage every individual—especially those with a family history, obesity, or irregular lifestyles—to undergo routine blood sugar checks. When monitored early and managed with the right treatment plan, diabetes does not have to limit one’s quality of life. Our message today is simple: prevention, timely diagnosis, and disciplined management can make all the difference.”

Dr. Jetti Bharathi, Chief Operating Officer, GurunanakCARE Hospitals, stated,
“Awareness is the strongest tool we have when it comes to tackling lifestyle-related diseases. Events like these bring together doctors, staff, and local communities to spread a unified message on health. At Gurunanak CARE Hospitals, we are committed to promoting preventive healthcare and empowering people with the right information. Our focus is not only on treating diabetes but also on educating communities about healthy habits, annual screenings, and early warning signs. Today’s walk is a reminder that when hospitals and communities collaborate, we can build a healthier tomorrow.”

The event concluded with a brief awareness session at the hospital, where experts highlighted the importance of regular health check-ups and early symptom recognition to prevent long-term complications.
