CHRONIC STRESS CAN TRIGGER CARDIAC ARREST

CHRONIC STRESS CAN TRIGGER CARDIAC ARREST

Being ambitious and working towards the accomplishment of our dreams is truly commendable. But stretching ourselves beyond the limits without understanding the consequences of health is not a good practice. Owing to the excessive work hours, imbalanced lifestyle and tremendous traumatic pressure, people are under high risk of cardiac arrest, BP and numerous other fatal illness.

Dr. Ramesh Gudapati, Consultant Cardiologist, STAR Hospital, Hyderabad said, “There are many situations where we get impacted with fatal illnesses without any symptoms or warnings. In just three consecutive days, 3 doctors I know have passed away. It is really unfortunate scenario to witness such drastic incidents.”

To prevent untimely deaths:

  1. Get your blood pressure checked up. Don’t hesitate to start medication when the BP is above 130/80. Don’t through the BP under the blanket of white coat hypertension. Get an Ambulatory BP monitoring if in doubt.
  2. Get your Sugar levels checked. Change your Diabetes medication to those drugs which give cardiovascular protection.
  3. Get your lipids checked. Don’t start Statins if you are not a diabetic and if your LDL is less than 190 mg%. But start them when indicated.

4. Get a stress test done once a year. Don’t ignore mild positive TMTs. Get a CT coronary angio if TMT is mildly positive or if you have significant risk factors.

5. Regular exercise is a must. Combine walking with a few Resistance exercises.

6.Eat healthy. Mercilessly avoid any food that you know is not good for health. Don’t eat even small quantity of unhealthy food.

7.Do Meditation. Meditation is not yoga. Meditation is not breathing exercises. Meditation is meditation and it is very useful. Learn from a master and do regularly.

8. Sleep well. Considering everything, 7 hours sleep per day is the best.

9. If you are ambitious, go ahead and work hard. If you are not, relax. But be comfortable with what you do. Living in harmony with oneself is the key.

10. Ultimately doing what we know to be right is the only way forward. Sometimes we may not be able to prevent catastrophes. It’s not that doctors who died have lived an undisciplined life. Nature is a serial killer without qualms. Sometimes we fight, sometimes we acquiesce.
