Polytrauma accident victim on life support and infected with Covid 19 virus saved by doctors at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital

Hyderabad, August 25th, 2021: Team of Doctors at the Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital (L B Nagar) saved life of an accident victim who was on ‘life support’ and infected with Covid-19 virus. Patient had only 10% survival chance, and it was the expertise and effort of team of doctors at the hospital that ensure the victim was brought out of hopeless condition.

On June 28th, 18-year-old Shabhaz was rushed to Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital on suffering an accident in the city. The victim suffered multiple fractures, and due to acute traumatic brain injury caused in the accident, he was fast slipping into severe coma condition. The patient needed a multi-disciplinary specialised approach to treat him and help him recover from coma. But during the treatment, the patient tested positive for Covid-19 with a high virus load complicating the recovery process.

Commenting on the complexities, Dr. V V Satyanarayana, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital, who led the treatment process said, “The patient, a young boy was in a coma condition when he was brought to the hospital. All vital parameters were abnormally low giving him a very less chance of survival. However, I along with my colleagues from various specialisations did not lose hope and strived hard for few days to ensure the patient’s recovery.”

“Testing Covid-19 positive during the treatment process jeopardised the patient’s health. Virus load was high and treatment to cure fractures had to be improvised to ensure he was cured of coronavirus infection before he would fully recover. After complete recovery, the patient was discharged from the hospital on July 24th, and his health was recently reassessed and is now back to his daily routine,” added Dr. Gauri Shankar, Consultant Neuro Surgeon, Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital.

This treatment would not have been possible without the support and cooperation received from other specialists including Dr. Ahmer Ali Khan, Consultant – Internal Medicine; Dr. Muralishwar, Consultant Radiologist; and members of the support staff who ensured patient condition was being constantly monitored during the treatment period and his Covid-19 infection does not reach irrecoverable levels.
