Doctors at SLG Hospitals revive a 90 year old man with a fractured hip to walk in just one day

In a remarkable effort, Doctors at the SLG Hospitals, fast emerging as one of the largest healthcare facilities in South India, have revived a 90+ year old gentleman with a fractured hip to walk in just one day of surgery. Considered a serious injuryand life threatening at times among the old-aged people, chances of recovering from a broken hip or fractured neck of femur are bleak at most times.

The patient _ Mr. Lakshmana Chary _ has a history of suffering heart attack and kidney related ailments made the case highly challenging. A surgery was not an easy decision to make; yet the team led by Dr. Chakradhar Reddy, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon excelled in their treatment approach to resurrect the patient in one day and discharged him from the hospital on third day of the surgery.

A fracture of the femoral neck is classified as a type of hip fracture and is often caused due to osteoporosis. In majority cases, a hip fracture is a fragility fracture due to a fall or minor trauma in someone with weakened osteoporotic bone. And in the case of this patient, the fracture occurred due to a fall in the bathroom.

Commenting on the surgery, Dr. Chakradhar Reddy, Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon, SLG Hospitals said, “Initial management of a neck of femur fracture is to stabilize the patient; and we achieved that by putting the patient in ICU under expert supervision. Morale of the patient was boosted before he was operated on, and this approach always helps in a successful surgery. The patient was made to walk the next day of undergoing hip replacement surgery, and he was discharged from the hospital on day three. A week later, the surgical clips were removed, and the patient is doing fine now. We at SLG Hospitals are extremely happy with the recovery process of this nonagenarian patient and are thrilled for having helped him get back to life.Such high-risk category patients can be operated when support exists from other departments like cardiology, Anesthesia, critical care;and physiotherapy in the case of this particular patient.”

SLG Hospitals is well equipped to handle complex surgeries and procedures to lease new life into patients in the times of emergency. Fast emerging into one of the largest healthcare facilities in South India, SLG Hospitals has advanced equipment and well-known specialists to cater to the healthcare needs of the patients.
