A Masterplan For 4 New Government Hospitals

It’s no secret that Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Gandhi Hospital and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) are bursting at the seams with an overabundance of patients. 

Together, both these hospitals can handle only 2,200 patients every day. But it’s still not enough; both these hospitals have a combined footfall of 3000 to 4000 patients every day.

The Telangana Government is planning to construct four multispeciality hospitals in order to give some relief to these overburdened hospitals. Each of these hospitals will have 750 beds.

The four new hospitals are expected to come up inside the Outer Ring Road near junctions connecting Hyderabad-Warangal, Hyderabad-Nizamabad, Hyderabad-Vijayawada and Hyderabad-Mahabubnagar National Highways.

Plan Under Progress

As part of this plan, the health ministry of Telangana has already directed the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TSMSIDC) to prepare a detailed proposal.

According to Rajeshwar Tiwari, Principal Secretary, Health, Medical & Family Welfare, said that many patients coming from the districts find it difficult to obtain the necessary health care in the existing Govt. Hospitals.

During emergencies, it’s also been noticed that many lives are lost as patients cannot reach hospitals in time. Mr. Tiwari further added that if the hospitals are situated at strategic locations around the city, people from the districts could benefit a lot.

Maternity Centres Also To Be Attached To Super-Speciality Hospitals

Every day, hundreds of patients from the districts seek out maternity hospitals. Those who cannot be accommodated in government hospitals spend a lot of money in private hospitals. A senior official said that a 50-bedded maternity centre at each of these four locations would be constructed soon.

Tenders will be soon invited on an e-procurement platform to quote for planning, drawing and preparation of estimates.

The government has already earmarked land at four places and is planning to raise funds of Rs.1,500 crore from banks. It has set a target of completing the construction of at least 2 hospitals by end of 2018.
