STAR Hospitals Swaps the Usual Marathon & Walkathon for India’s First-Ever Hospital-Led 10-Floor Stair-Climb Challenge to Mark Emergency Medicine Day
HYDERABAD, INDIA – May 27, 2026 – In a powerful and unique celebration of global Emergency Medicine Day, STAR Hospitals, Nanakramguda, successfully concluded "emergenSEE 2026," India’s first-ever 10-Level Staircase Climb Challenge organized by a hospital.
Moving away from conventional awareness walks or marathons, more than 100 participants, which included doctors, nursing staff, and healthcare professionals from STAR Hospitals, pushed their physical limits by conquering the 10-floor facility twice, totaling a grueling 20-story vertical ascent. The high-endurance internal challenge was designed to highlight physical resilience while drawing a powerful parallel to the intense, uphill battle that emergency medical teams face daily to save lives.
The event directly aligned with this year’s global Emergency Medicine Day theme: "Safe Space for Emergency Medicine Teams: STOP Violence Everywhere." By scaling the heights together, the participants stood united to demand a secure, violence-free workplace, emphasizing that emergency teams require a safe environment to perform their high-stakes duties effectively.
"Emergency medicine is a relentless, uphill battle against time where every second counts," said Dr. Rahul Katta, Group Lead of Emergency Medicine at STAR Hospitals Hyderabad. "We created the 'emergenSEE' Stair-Climb Challenge to mirror that physical and mental grit. This wasn't just a test of endurance; it was a powerful statement. By conquering these 10 levels twice, our frontline teams showcased their resilience."
Dr. Rahul Medakkar, Chief Executive Officer of STAR Hospitals Hyderabad, praised the staff's dedication, stating: "Watching 100 of our healthcare heroes tackle this intense vertical challenge was incredibly inspiring. This event was not only a testament to our push for staff wellness and physical endurance, but a roaring declaration that our frontline workers deserve a safe and supportive environment to deliver life-saving care."
The challenge kicked off precisely at 6:00 AM IST from the Ground Floor Lobby of STAR Hospitals, Nanakramguda. According to fitness metrics, just 15 minutes of stair climbing is equivalent to 30 minutes of running, making the double-ascent a true testament to the extraordinary stamina required in emergency medicine.
The groundbreaking event culminated in an emotional post-climb ceremony where the top 10 fastest-timed participants were awarded for their grit, stamina, and solidarity.
The STAR Hospitals Emergency Medicine team has also released a video dedicated to all emergency medicine professionals. The video talks about "three things that come to an emergency person’s mind" about emergency medicine. This video is available on the STAR Hospitals, Hyderabad YouTube Channel.
