Severely Injured Liver Treated Successfully at KIMS Kurnool

Kurnool, 5th May 2022: KIMS doctors have successfully performed surgery on a person, whose liver is severely injured in a road accident. Usually, such cases are dealt with in major cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore. But, KIMS doctors achieved this in a tier-II city like Kurnool itself. They explained the condition of the patient and the treatment given to him. ‘‘27-year-old Venkatasivudu is severely injured in a road accident near Nandyal. His right toe and left thumb were fractured and he also has symptoms of internal bleeding. When he went to a local hospital, they took a scan and told him that his liver is damaged, and also observed internal bleeding. They suggested he go to Kurnool. When came to KIMS hospital, we tested him and found his liver damaged. But as the other parameters like BP and pulse are stable, we kept him under observation. Usually, the Liver can repair itself. But, on the second day, his HB levels were decreasing. Then, we understood that the internal bleeding has not stopped, and decided to perform liver surgery. Consultant surgical gastroenterologist Dr Janakiram SJ has performed the surgery. When he opened, some part of the liver is badly damaged. So, he has removed that damaged part, sutured the rest of the part, and controlled bleeding. The liver is the only part of the human body that can increase on its own. So, there will be no problem even if some part of it is removed. He was kept in the ICU and treated with proper medication. After that, Consultant Orthopedic surgeon Dr P.Kiran has performed the surgery on the patient's fractured fingers. Now, Venkatasivudu is fully recovered.’’
