Giving his note on the occasion, Dr. Bhadra Reddy, Chairman, Malla Reddy Health City, said, “The International Human Papilloma Virus Day is an annual observance on 4th March to raise awareness about the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which can cause cervical cancer. This Walk was organized to create awareness about the virus, its symptoms, prevention methods, and importance of vaccination against it.”

The Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause genital warts and cancers. HPV can infect both men and women, but it is most common in women. Some people with the virus don’t show symptoms and often don’t know they have it. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in four people will be infected with HPV at some point in their lives. HPV often goes away on its own, but it can take 6 months or more to clear up. It is also possible to get rid of the virus by undergoing treatment like radiation therapy or surgery to remove precancerous cells or genital warts. It’s important to remember that you can lower the odds of getting an HPV infection.

There are many types of human papillomavirus which are categorized based on their viral type, such as high-risk or low-risk. The most common types of HPV in women are HPV 16 and 18. These two types can cause cervical cancer. Other cancers that can be caused by HPV include anal, penile, vaginal, oropharyngeal (head and neck), and vulvar cancer.

This Awareness Walk by Malla Reddy Cancer Hospital is a thoughtful initiative that can trigger ripples of insightful awareness amongst the society.
