NIMS Scholars Win Coveted Young Scientist Awards

The Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a scientific body working towards promoting research in the field of translational science. This organization recently bestowed the prestigious Young Scientist Awards on two promising scientists and PhD scholars Ms Thishya Kalluri and Mr Shiva Krishna Katkam in recognition of their outstanding work in biomedical sciences. 

 

Both these scholars are from the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, 

 

Ms Thishya Kalluri was awarded the Prof. K. K. Srivastava & Prof. L.M. Srivastava Young Innovators Award - 2016 for her work, ‘Developing Pharmacogenetic Algorithm for Precise Prediction of Tacrolimus Drug Dosing in Kidney Transplanted Patients’. 

 

On the other hand, Mr Shiva Krishna Katkam received the Prof. Nurul Islam Award 2016 for his work, ‘Influence of HLA-DRB1 Susceptibility Alleles on the Clinical Phenotypes of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Patients’.

 

These PhD students were carrying out their research work under the guidance of Dr Vijay Kumar Kutala, Additional Professor, Department of Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, NIMS. The research work was funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

 

“We consider it a great honour that two of our students have received the prestigious Young Scientist Awards. This recognition bodes well for NIMS in its pursuit of excellence in the field of research”, said an elated Dr Vijay kumar Kutala.

 

Dr K Manohar, Director, NIMS, felicitated both the awardees and hoped that other NIMS researchers would bring more laurels to the institute in the future.
