Global Hospitals Founder Dr Ravindranath Pledges 70 percent of wealth to build World class Health Tech Varsity and Innovation.

Hyderabad, 10th August, 2021: Renowned doctor and philanthropist Dr Ravindranath Kancherla, founder of Hyderabad headquartered Global Hospitals Group, has announced pledging 70% of his wealth (amounting to us$50+million or RS 350 +cr )to build a world-class not-for profit medical education, research and innovation institute. Even as India’s population continues to grow, he finds the need for Major focus on medical education, innovation and research and decides to float Global university Foundation to build a medical university and research innovation hub at Hyderabad.

The surgeon known for setting up global scale organ transplantation healthcare infrastructure in India is passionate about innovation in health-tech that needs doctors, and medical hospitals to work closely with other technology institutions to innovate on the cusp of medical and technical areas. In line with this principle, Dr Ravindranath contemplated the Global Health Tech University & Innovation Hub (GHUIH), a section 8 (Non-Profit) Company with significant investment, to democratize medical care by Health-Tech innovation to help the Indian and global population to secure a leading place for Hyderabad and India on the global innovation map.

GHUIH would consist of a top medical university and hospital on global scale with multi-disciplinary research and innovation focus with own teams with medical and technology focus who interface and collaborate with reputed medical and technical and management institutes not to duplicate efforts.

To establish medical university, a 750-1,000 bed hospital and health-tech innovation hub requires more than US$100 million of capital over a period of 7 years towards medical technology infrastructure and human resources. While Dr Ravindranath pledges 70% of his wealth for this noble cause to establish Global Health Foundation that will take care of 50 percent of capital required, many of his philanthropic friends from medical, pharmaceutical, technology and commerce fields across the globe have evinced keen interest to contribute the balance required funds, apart from supporting the cause with ideation and knowledge.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Ravindranath said "GHUIH is being established in Hyderabad, India to provide a new model for sustainable development of medical infrastructure, which helps the global population by building infrastructure on philanthropic model. It also contributes in reducing the load on the governments, reduce the cost of intervention through innovation thus strive towards providing health security for all”.

Further, the surgical gastroenterologist said, “This institution is first of its kind in India and few in the world. I have pledged 70% of my wealth for this cause and appointed executors for my registered will to ensure the project goes on stream despite any eventuality.”

According to a leading analyst firm report, the United States has 2.672 doctors per 1,000 people and 3.1 hospital beds per 1,000 people. As against this, India has a mere 0.599 doctors and 0.9 hospital beds per 1,000 people. Going by these numbers, India would need almost 2.4 million new doctors and over 2 million additional hospital beds to reach the global standards. To achieve world-class and affordable healthcare, the focus needs to be on talent creation through quality medical education by building a world-class medical university to train doctors, nurses, and technical staff in future technologies. It is important that top medical and technical talent working together to devise innovative solutions to see citizens stay healthy through proactive preventive care, even if they become sick attending them remotely, in cases of hospitalization innovations help reduce the cost of interventions.

It is no exaggeration to say that healthcare is undergoing a revolution with the new innovations and technologies. Research with focus on frugal innovation areas include medical, medical device reengineering, drug discovery, personalized medicines using genomics, regenerative medicines, robotics, non-invasive & wearable diagnostics, clinical research, Biotech also utilizing allied technologies such as Artificial intelligence, Big Data and Quantum computing.

Digital health — the application of digital technologies to healthcare — is transforming our approach to medicine and improving our well-being. Digital health solutions offer the promise of delivering more for less — and hold the potential to impact positively. New technologies place the individual in the center of the healthcare universe instead of the statistically average patient. Instead of universal solutions, precision medicine and targeted treatments will aim to offer personalized solutions for the individual.
