PREVALENCE IN SUMMER

The weather can have a major impact on our health. Summer in particular is not so good for your renal health. Hot, sunny weather can lead to dehydration, which causes your body to lose a lot of water through sweating.  And can increase the risk of forming kidney stones. This is because high humidity levels in the air can increase the rate at which calcium and oxalate combine to form kidney stones.

PREVENTIVE TIPS

  • Stay hydrated, drink adequate water (3-4 litres per day)
  • Cut down salt intake

  • Eat fruits and veggies high in water content
  • Reduce intake of sugar-sweetened foods and beverages
  • Reduce intake of alcohol
  • Stay away from crash diets
  • Reduce Intake of oxalate-rich foods such as peanuts, legumes, chocolates, sweet potatoes etc
