STAR Cancer Centre by STAR Hospitals, Hyderabad hosted ‘Men For Women’ A one-of-its-kind event that honoured the unsung heroes behind breast cancer survivors: the MEN who stood by them

In an inspiring display of courage, compassion, and the power of unity, STAR Cancer Centre organized a unique programme ‘Men For Women’ designed to encourage men to take an active role in breast cancer prevention and support.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in India. In 2022, there were an estimated 216,108 cases of breast cancer in the country. 2.3 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, resulting in approximately 670,000 deaths worldwide. With India’s predominantly younger population, the incidence of breast cancer among younger women is expected to rise significantly in the coming years. The only way to change these numbers is by increasing awareness around early detection.
Breast cancer doesn’t just impact one life; it reaches deep into the hearts of everyone in the family, roles shift, and family members rise to new responsibilities. Men find themselves embracing roles they may not have imagined - taking on the nurturing spirit of a mother, the gentle care of a sister, and the devoted support of a spouse. At the same time, becoming pillars of strength, providing comfort and encouragement as they walk beside their loved one, facing each challenge together. This journey reveals the remarkable resilience of a family, showing that love, courage, and unity can turn even the darkest days into moments of hope and healing.

The ‘Men For Women’ programme by STAR Cancer Centre honoured men who provided unwavering strength to their loved ones during the challenging journey of breast cancer treatment. These men were recognized as ‘heroes’, a fitting tribute to the instrumental role they played in their loved ones' fight against the disease. The event also celebrated the resilience of breast cancer survivors, awarded as ‘Inspiring STAR’ on their incredible journeys.
The event was graced by Shri Srikanth Garu, beloved movie star, who served as the Chief Guest. Speaking about the importance of awareness and support, Shri Srikanth emphasized the impact of standing united in the face of such a formidable health challenge.
Also lending their support were Dr. Gopichand Mannam, Managing Director Star Hospitals Group, Dr. Ramesh Gudipati, Joint Managing Director Star Hospitals Group, Dr. Rahul Medakkar, Chief Executive Officer Star Hospitals Group, Mr. Vaka Bhaskar Reddy, Chief Operating Officer Star Hospitals Group, Dr. Vipin Goel, Sr. Consultant & Head – Surgical Oncology, Dr. SainathBhethanabhotla, Sr. Consultant & Head – Medical Oncology and Dr. AMVR Narendra, Sr. Consultant & Head – Clinical Haematology& BMT.

Dr. Vipin Goel Sr. Consultant & Head – Surgical Oncology, at STAR Cancer Centre, highlighted "Breast cancer is not a battle fought alone—it is one that deeply affects families, communities, and the bonds we share. Early detection, though critical, is just one part of the journey. The other is having a circle of love and support around the patient. Our goal is not just to treat the disease but to support the entire family. Through events like this, we remind everyone that with early detection and strong support, we can change the story of cancer from fear to hope."

Dr. SainathBhethanabhotla, Sr. Consultant & Head – Medical Oncology emphasized, “Men are often the silent pillars of strength during the cancer journey, but their role goes beyond just being supporters. They are motivators, caregivers, and advocates for early detection. By encouraging the women in their lives to get regular screenings, they are not only helping to save lives but are actively participating in the fight against breast cancer. This initiative is about empowering men to take a stand, educate themselves, and help women prioritize their health in ways that truly matter.”

Star Hospitals also launched Star Sahaya—a comprehensive educational series aimed at providing individuals with vital information about various health conditions, ranging from simple health hacks to serious health issues, as well as guidance on early detection and treatment. This important initiative was unveiled by Shri Srikanth Garu, alongside the Star Hospitals leadership team and the dedicated doctors from the STAR Cancer Centre.
