Haemangioma of Liver, KIMS Kurnool doctors perform surgery

Kurnool, 24th April 2023: Liver plays a key role in human anatomy. It is very sensitive. Any treatment for Liver ailments should be done meticulously. If something wrong happens, it may turn fatal. Doctors from KIMS hospital, Kurnool made a quick decision and performed a complicated surgery to save the life of a woman. The Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist of the hospital, Dr. Sura Janakiram explained the details.

A 43-year-old woman from Orvakal of Kurnool district was suffering from stomach pain and went to some hospitals. A CT Scan report showed a tumor-like thing around the Liver. It is called Hemangioma in medical terminology. Some doctor suggested to go to Hyderabad for better treatment. She came  to KIMS Hospital Kurnool from there. By the time she came to us, there was a swelling-like thing on the liver due to internal bleeding. As her stomach pain was much more severe, we tested her thoroughly.

To arrest further bleeding while performing the surgery, initially, all the blood veins were blocked by a team led by Dr. Ashok Reddy, Interventional Radiologist through angiogram and medicines. The next day, surgery was done by Dr. Sura Janakiram and his team. The complete blood tumor was removed. Anesthetist Dr. Shruti also helped in the surgery. Now the patient is completely recovered. Her sutures were also removed. Now she can attend to her daily chores too.

Such major surgeries to the Liver are done in metro cities like Hyderabad and Bangalore. Doing them in tier-two cities like Kurnool is very rare. But in this case, such complicated major surgery was done so simply, and that too completely free under the Aarogyasree scheme. The patient and their family members thanked the team of doctors, and hospital management for saving her life.
