Medical Auditing is The Need of The Hour

Medical audit at Apollo Health City, Hyderabad stressed on improving quality and enhancement of patient care. Medical audit analyses and reviews the outcome of the care provided to the patient under a set criteria. This audit is helpful in measuring the level of current practices and to comply whether they adhere to certain standards. The audit identifies the discrepancies and loopholes in the quality of care and service to the patients. Accordingly, mechanisms are built and framed to fill the loopholes and improve the quality of work.

Medical audit is an avid part of clinical governance which focuses on safeguarding the rights and providing good care to patients. The workshop was conducted in accordance with Apollo Hospitals and Health Information Management Association (HIMA). The inauguration of the workshop was done by the blessed hands of Prof. Dr. GD Mogli, President HIMA-India, Father of Medical Records in India and Middle East. Mr Y Subramanyam, CEO Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, Dr. Raju N Mantena, Secretary NRI Academy, Dr. A Ravindra Babu, Medical Superintendent, Apollo Health City, Professor P Satyanarayan and Lt. Col. Dr. K. Kamalakar were also a part of the event. 

Prof. Dr. G D Mogli shed light on the need of medical audit. He says that medical audit should be at par with financial audit as it is accountable for the treatment of the patient. Medical audit can ensure safety of the cultural practice of the hospital and healthcare professionals.

Mr. Subramanyam says that the medical records of the organisation should always be up to date. A medical record is the identity of the patient and gives information of his health status, medications and recommendations by the doctor and the nursing staff. A medical record gives safety to the hospital and to its medical fraternity. He also appreciated HIMA activities and excellent work done by the committee members. He plans to organise regular CME programs in the hospital in future to promote medical audit and safety culture.

Dr. Raju N Mantena, Secretary, NRI Academy appreciates the system of professional medical documentation done in western countries. He says that the medical culture of India needs to get inspired from western culture, work hard to bridge the gap and come at par with their standards.

Dr. A Ravindra Babu, Medical Superintendent, Apollo Health City advises the paramedical and nursing staff to keep updated and well maintained records of the patient. He believes that a good and accurate record works well in protecting the integrity of the patient, doctor and the hospital in general.
