300 Screened at CARE Hospitals' Free Vascular Camp; Many Found with Hidden Circulation Disorders

CARE Hospitals, Banjara Hills screened 300 people during a Free Vascular Health Check Camp organised on the occasion of National Vascular Day, with doctors identifying a significant number of previously undiagnosed vascular conditions, highlighting the growing but often overlooked burden of vascular disease in the community.

The camp, led by Dr. P. C. Gupta, Clinical Director & HOD – Vascular & Endovascular Surgery, Vascular IR & Podiatric Surgery, offered free vascular consultations and Doppler evaluations for people at risk of vascular diseases.

During the screening, doctors identified 70 cases of varicose veins, 50 people with suspected Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD), a condition caused by reduced blood flow to the legs and 20 patients with diabetic foot complicationsrequiring specialised vascular care. Twenty patients were advised to undergo advanced vascular investigations and further intervention, while five patients were recommended vascular surgery based on the severity of their condition. All participants received counselling on vascular disease prevention, lifestyle modification and the importance of early diagnosis.

Doctors observed that many participants had been living with symptoms such as leg pain while walking, numbness, persistent swelling, cold feet and non-healing foot wounds for several months, often assuming they were a normal part of ageing, diabetes or joint-related problems. Most had never undergone a vascular evaluation before, delaying diagnosis and increasing their risk of serious complications.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. C. Gupta said, "The findings from today's screening reinforce the need for greater awareness about vascular diseases. Many people continue to ignore early warning signs such as leg pain while walking, numbness, cold feet or non-healing foot wounds, unaware that these symptoms may indicate blocked arteries. Timely vascular screening enables early diagnosis and treatment, helping prevent limb loss and significantly improving quality of life."

He added that people living with diabetes, smokers, individuals above 50 years of age and those with high blood pressure or high cholesterol should undergo regular vascular evaluation, as they are at significantly higher risk of developing blocked arteries.
