Building the Future of Healthcare: STAR Healthcare Quality Conclave 2025 Sparks a Quality Movement by Star Hospitals

Hyderabad, May 11, 2025: Star Hospitals successfully hosted the STAR Healthcare Quality Conclave 2025 today at Pramana Hall, STAR Hospitals, Nanakramguda. This one-day national event brought together thought leaders, clinicians, hospital administrators, and quality experts from across the country under the theme “Building a Culture of Quality in Healthcare.”

The conclave focused on driving real change in Indian healthcare by highlighting the importance of quality, innovation, empathy, patient safety, and system sustainability.

Investing in Quality: A Leadership Imperative

“Quality is not a one-time initiative—it’s a culture that must be led from the top and sustained every day,” said Dr. Alexander Thomas, Founder & Patron of AHPI, ANBAI, and CAHO, stressing the importance of leadership in embedding a quality mindset in healthcare systems.

Adding a strategic perspective, Mahadevan Narayanamoni, Senior Advisor at TPG Capital and Co-founder of Akna Medical, said, “When hospitals invest in quality, the returns are not just financial—they’re seen in better patient outcomes, stronger trust, and long-term value.”

Balancing Financial Sustainability with Care Excellence

“Quality care and financial performance are not opposing forces—they can and must grow together,” noted Dr. Ramesh Gudapati, Joint Managing Director of STAR Hospitals. He emphasized how STAR has pursued efficiency without compromising clinical outcomes.

Humanising Healthcare: Putting Empathy Back at the Center

“Patient experience is shaped not just by treatment, but by tone, body language, and a sense of being heard,” said Ratan Jalan, Founder & MD, Medium Healthcare Consulting. He explained how empathy and sustained service excellence must become everyday practice in healthcare.

Speaking on patient rights and advocacy, Prof. Nadira Chaturvedi, Co-Chair, Patients for Patient Safety Foundation (India), added, “Patients are not just receivers of care—they are partners. Educating and involving them improves safety and outcomes.”

Strengthening Clinical Quality & Safety

“We must move away from legacy practices and adopt protocols that are proven to save lives,” said Dr. Gopichand Mannam, Managing Director of STAR Hospitals. He spoke on the need for accountability and evidence-backed interventions in hospital systems.

A major highlight of the STAR Healthcare Quality Conclave 2025 was the launch of 50 clinical protocols in Emergency Care by STAR Hospitals, aimed at standardising responses and ensuring rapid, safe care.

“In high-pressure settings like ICUs and emergency rooms, standardisation is what keeps patients safe,” said Dr. Rahul Katta, Group Head – Emergency Medicine, STAR Hospitals.

Innovation in Critical Care and Emergency Medicine

“Emergency medicine is where seconds matter—innovation here can mean the difference between life and death,” stated Dr. Naga Nischal C, speaking on safety in acute care.

Dr. Chandana, Group Head – Critical Care, STAR Hospitals, shared, “We are building systems that not only respond faster but reduce error by design.”

Empowering Nurses and Human Resource Teams

“Nurses are the backbone of patient safety. Empowering them through training and encouraging open reporting can transform outcomes,” said Precila Fernandes, Director of Nursing, Medanta, Lucknow.

On the role of HR in care delivery, Col. Rajgopal M, Founder, TranscendOrg, noted, “Hiring right, building the right culture, and aligning teams with purpose—all of it begins in HR but reflects at the patient bedside.”

Medication and Infection Safety: Breaking the Myths

“Medication safety isn’t just about prescriptions—it’s about systems that prevent harm before it happens,” explained Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Professor & Head, Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences, Delhi.

“Many infection control practices are outdated or misunderstood. We must bridge the gap between habit and science,” said Dr. Ranganathan Iyer, Consultant Microbiologist, Rainbow Hospital.
