Young surgeons to be trained at KIMS

Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS Hospitals) has started ‘Surgical Skills Lab’ to help budding surgeons gain professional expertise, in advanced surgical practices. The first session was on basic laparoscopySkills, attended by 20 junior Doctors and aspiring surgeons from various hospitals in twin cities.

 

The science and modern techniques in surgery are evolving by the day, and surgeons need to stay updated on the last developments in this field.  The Surgical Skills Lab provides an opportunity to all young and aspiring surgeons to learn from and hone skills under the tutelage of veterans with a large wealth of knowledge and expertise.

 

Commenting on the Surgical Skills lab, Dr Bollineni Bhaskar Rao, MD & CEO, KIMS Hospitals said, “Surgery is a vast area and is ever emerging! Hence, Surgeons must hone and sharpen their skills on a continuous basis; and the Surgical Skills Lab at KIMS hospitals is a great step forward to help surgeons become better by the day. We are happy, KIMS hospitals has taken the initiative to launch this lab to enable surgeons gain advanced skills.”

 

The Surgical Skills Lab will hold learning sessions in three broad formats:

 

Basic Surgical Skills: a half day course suitable for newly joined PGs in Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics; covering the very basic aspects like surgical scrubbing, instrument & tissue handling, suture materials, suturing, and knotting.

 

Basic Laparoscopic Skills: a two-days course for second and final year PGs in Surgery and Gynaecology. This covers the basics of laparoscopy and hands on training using endo-trainers.

 

Anastomotic workshop: one day course for second and third year PGs in Surgery. This covers various types of anastomosis and hands on training, using animal intestines.
