WORLD DIABETES DAY AWARENESS IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR

As we celebrate World Diabetes Day, it is indeed our mutual responsibility to shed some light and create awareness about this chronic disease. Do you know? 1 in 2 adults with diabetes remain undiagnosed (232 million). Amongst them, majority have type 2 diabetes. 100 years after the discovery of insulin, millions of people with diabetes around the world cannot access the care they need. People with diabetes require continuous ongoing care and support to manage their condition and avoid complications.

Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes your body doesn’t make enough insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells says "Dr. Dilip Nandamuri, MD, FCCP, Consultant Physician & Diabetologist, STAR Hospitals
