SIMPLE STEPS TO KEEP YOUR SPINE HALE AND HEALTHY CELEBRATE WORLD SPINE DAY

Your body is affected by the arrangement of your work area and by the tasks you perform on a daily basis. The layout of your workstation, the tools you use, etc., limit your body positions, or determine these positions according to the nature of your job. The lack of flexibility in choosing body positions, contributes to various health problems.

 

Dr.K.V.Shivanand Reddy, Consultant Neurosurgeon, Malla Reddy Narayana Multispecialty Hospitals, said, “People whose work involves standing for long hours suffer other problems as well, as standing, without the relief of walking, causes blood to pool in the legs and feet. This prolonged standing results in inflammation of the veins, which in time may progress to chronic and painful varicose veins. Excessive standing also causes the joints in the spine, hips, knees and feet to become temporarily immobilized or locked, and this can later lead to rheumatic diseases due to degenerative damage to the tendons and ligaments.”

 

FOLLOW THESE SIMPLE STEPS

  • Use a mattress which is not too hard or too soft
  • Use pillow according to your comfort
  • Don’t sleep on the floor
  • Just after getting from the bed, do 5 to 10 minutes do back stretching exercises
  • Include moderate to brisk walking for 30 to 45 minutes in a daily routine
  • In office or workplace on your sitting chair, keep your back in an erect posture with proper back support
  • Do not sit in one place for more than 2 hours. Take 5 minutes gap in between to walk & relax your back
  • Try to quit smoking
  • Use a healthy diet rich in Vitamin D3 & Vitamin B12
  • Useless carbs & high protein diet
  • It’s your back, your choice
