NVIDIA Graphics Private Limited Hyderabad extended its support to provide treatment for children with Retinoblastoma (a cancer tumor found in the eye especially in children below 5 years of age) at L V Prasad Eye Institute’s Operation Eyesight Universal Institute for Eye Cancer. Shri K. Rajendra Kumar, Manager-Facilities, NVIDIA Graphics, said that NVIDIA and its employees feel proud to support this noble cause at LVPEI, which will impact hundreds of patients suffering from eye cancer.

The NVIDIA Foundation’s ‘Compute the Cure Cancer Care’ grant was awarded to L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) through a competitive grant in September 2017. This grant will support LVPEI’s Eye Cancer Unit for providing radiation therapy and ocular prosthesis to underserved patients at no cost.  The grant will directly impact over 1000 children including 150 to 200 new patients who come from across India for treatment. LVPEI is also working towards spreading awareness about the disease, which will enhance the treatment success.

Over 150 patients receive varying cycles of chemotherapy as part of the treatment. Sadly, “Retinoblastoma” largely occurs in children below 5 years of age. The Institute is constantly taking care of these children and is also putting in efforts to raise awareness regarding early detection of Retinoblastoma to maximize treatment success. Delayed presentation results in over 50% of children losing their sight.

On this occasion, Dr. Swathi Kaliki, Head – Operation Eyesight Universal Institute for Eye Cancer, L V Prasad Eye Institute expressed gratitude and appreciated NVIDIA Foundation’s support to cure eye cancer in children,”
