The Department of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, organized a two-day hands-on workshop to train anesthesiologists & pain physicians on the advancements in treating chronic & acute pain. The objective of the workshop is to update the health care professionals on assessment and modalities available for pain management and to enhance formulation of pain management based on individualized care.
Dr Naresh Kumar Reddy, HOD, Department of Anesthesiology, said, “In this workshop, we emphasized on the widespread usage of ultrasound & fluoroscopy for safe & effective nerve blocks in perioperative setup & chronic pain clinics. We took the opportunity to create a platform to enhance awareness & share knowledge. The delegates got a chance to learn handling and nuances of real time imaging modalities from our experienced faculty”
The workshop was conducted by experienced faculty from within & outside the state which was organized by Dr Nagalaxmi Patnala, Consultant Pain Physician under the guidance of Dr. Bharathi, Consultant Senior Anaesthesiologist & Dr Naresh Kumar Reddy, HOD, Department of Anesthesiology.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr B Bhaskar Rao, MD & CEO, KIMS Hospitals said,” We at KIMS Hospitals are committed to setting a platform for knowledge sharing and training. Besides the core healthcare we have always been committed to create these training opportunities. Interventions in pain management, both acute and chronic, will decrease the pain, restore the function and improve the quality of life. They are particularly useful when the medical management fails and surgical options are not keen. Real time imaging with fluoroscopy and ultrasound increases the safety and efficacy of intervention.”
This is the third annual hands on workshop conducted by the Department of Pain Medicine and Department of Anesthesiology in KIMS Hospitals, Secunderbad. Together we shall conduct many such programs in the future, said Dr. Nagalaxmi Patnala, Consultants Pain Management and Anesthesia, KIMS Hospitals Secunderabad, who organized this workshop.
““This workshop is to meet the educational needs of anesthesiologists & practicing pain physicians. Ultrasound provides real time imaging in performing nerve blocks which can be used to provide analgesia in acute trauma, perioperative analgesia & an effective alternative to general anesthesia particularly in high risk patients. Chronic pain conditions like low backache, neuropathic pain & cancer pain which are not relieved with conservative medical management can be effectively treated with percutaneous interventions. Use of fluoroscopy & ultrasound increase the margin of safety. This workshop provides hands on experience of acute & chronic pain interventions with needling sessions of mannequins & real time imaging on volunteers,” she added.
