Governor of Tamil Nadu and Kauvery Hospital launch campaign for organ donation awareness

Tiruchirappalli, 21st July 2018: Kauvery Hospital organised ‘Pledge for life’, an organ donation awareness campaign. The campaign was launched by the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu Mr. Banwarilal Purohit. The event was presided by the Hon’ble Minister for Heath & Family Welfare, Dr. C. Vijaya Baskar; Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Thiru. Vellamandi N. Natarajan; Hon’ble Minister for Backward Classes & Minorities Welfare, Thirumathi S. Valarmathi and Thiru P. Kumar M.P., in the presence of Dr. Mr. Chandrakumar Sundarraju - Managing Director, Kauvery Hospital and Dr. D. Senguttuvan - Executive Director - Kauvery Hospital.

In spite of all awareness campaigns, Organ Donation still does not occupy a prominent place in the minds of people. This is evident in the extremely low donation numbers in India and the lack of awareness on the process of organ donation. Every year, there are only 12,000 donors for more than 1.5 lakh new patients in the country who suffer from End-stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). Most of the general population has no clue about organ donation, and each year, thousands of people die while waiting for a donor. At the event, Kauvery Hospital felicitated some families of donors who took the right decision to donate the organs of their loved ones.

As a part of the Organ Donation campaign ‘Save the Kidney’ a book that gives insights about the alternatives to dialysis and renal transplantation, was launched. The nobility of organ donation of brain-dead persons, and how it benefits patients with kidney diseases are beautifully narrated in the book for better awareness about the kidneys and the various ailments affecting it, with information to live a healthy and productive life.
