550 gms child survives at kims cuddles
Baby girl ‘Dhairya’ and her mother Ms. Rashmi Vikas, Dr Shilpi Reddy, Dr Swetha Ravi and Dr. Sharadavani at a press conference at KIMS cuddles – Kondapur.

A child born of 550 grams in the 26th week of pregnancy was the size of an adult palm where chances of survival seemed blink but the neonatology team at KIMS Cuddles were able to make the baby survive.

Named Dhairya, the child is now a fully developed baby who is doing well like any other child.

The Neonatology team started with surfactant and put the baby on ventilator, as her lungs were premature to function. During the treatment, a type of heart disease, known as patent ductus arteriosus (commonly seen in extreme premature babies) was noticed, and the same of managed medically.

She suffered from hyperglycemia which required insulin infusion for few days. Even feeding her was an uphill task. Initially she was started on tube feeds but because of her mucosal cleft and small jaw switching her to spoon feeds took longer than anticipated.

Considering the complexities associated with the treatment to this child, super-specialists from Cardiology, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology and other departments at KIMS CUDDLES attended to her, to ensure the recovery process in swift and smooth.

Now, three months after the baby was born with little hope of survival, Dhairya is discharged from KIMS CUDDLES as a healthy baby weighing 1.749 kgs. Dhairya’s parents are from Mumbai and working as IT employees.

Dr Swetha, Consultant Neonatologist believes that Dhairya should not have any long term complications, even though we will closely follow her up for the next 2 years. It is nothing short of a miracle that she has come this far. She was a little fighter.

The parents also never gave up hope and always told us to give our best irrespective of the outcome.
