HEALTHY MONSOON SNACKS

 HEALTHY MONSOON SNACKS

Yes, we love the idea of deep fried bhajjis and samosas to accompany a rainy day, but if you’re on a genuine health trip, then you might want to look at other options to satisfy those between-meal cravings.

Here are some ways to satisfy your hankering for some crunch and munch:

Honey roasted almonds:Take a handful of almonds, wipe clean, toss in honey, lightly sprinkle with sea salt and spread over a lined baking tray. Roast in the oven (at 180 degrees C), turning frequently(to prevent burning), for around 15 minutes.

Health benefits: Almonds are rich in antioxidants and Vitamin E, amongst other nutrients.Theycontrol blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Peri Peri Popcorn: We agree – spice is nice on a rainy day, but maybe you can pass up a mirchibhajji for some Peri Peri Popcorn – wholesome, healthy and delicious. Pop some commercially available plain popping corn, and flavour it with some store-bought Peri Peri powder.

Health benefits: Corn (even popcorn) is packed with vitamins and minerals. It helps you meet weight loss targets, while keeping your blood sugar in check.

Crunchy Pumpkin Seeds : Toss a cup or two of pumpkin seeds in olive oil, sprinkle with a light dusting of sea salt and add just a bit of cayenne pepper. Roast in the oven (at 180 degrees C), turning frequently, until crunchy.

Health benefits: Pumpkin seeds lower blood sugar levels, are high in antioxidants and magnesium, and are full of valuable nutrients.

Air fried potato chips: We all love potato chips, but the more health conscious amongst us are not too keen on the process of preparation. Deep frying means more calories. Enjoy your favourite snack prepared in anAir Fryer and stay healthy. AirFryers are easily available and worth investing in.

Health benefits: Potatoes have no fat, sodium or cholesterol; they provide nearly half your daily value of Vitamin C; contain Vitamin B6, fiber, magnesium and antioxidants.

Pan grilled fruit and veggies:Toss pineapple cubes, halved tomatoes, pumpkin cubes, baby carrots and figs on a pan, and lightly grill with a little olive oil.

Health benefits: Pineapples boost immunity and promote bone strength; tomatoes contain lycopene, a powerful antioxidant, and are a source of Vitamin C, K, potassium and folate; pumpkins are rich in Vitamin A and they also promote weight loss; carrots contain beta carotene, fiber, Vitamin K1, potassium and antioxidants, and figs are a good source of calcium and fiber, while being known to control blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

Wishing you happy, healthy snacking during this rainy season!
