Targeted therapies at Indo American Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad

Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute is to provide  target oriented treatment therapies at affordable cost to the people said Dr Dattatreya Nori, Chief Scientific Advisor & Trust Board Member, BIACH&RI today.

While explaining the way cancer treatment is moving into innovative target oriented approach rather than targeting entire body in getting rid of cancer, Dr Nori has said that traditional methods of cancer treatment some times used to destroy healthy cells also along with cancer inflicted cells and thus leading to some other problems.

In order to reduce these problems, now various new methods such as Hyperthermic Introoperationeal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), Immunotherapy, Brachytherapy, Intra Operative Radio Therapy was invented and being used in modern world, he revealed.

He opined that future cancer treatment lies with Target Oriented approach and treatment therapies only.  Radiation rays given in traditional systems some time doesn’t reach very small minute cancerous cells thus giving scope of regrowth. To avoid such scenario, he said the latest Intra Operative Radio Theraphy systems can be used to give radiation during surgery stage itself thus allowing these minute particles to get destroyed, he explained.

Similar Dr Nori said that Immunotheraphy that tries to improve patients own immune system in a such way that it destroys cancer cells. He explained that this therapy can reduce the problems faced by doctors as a particular treatment works for one patients and fails at another.

These new treatments are being opted so that the patients lives are improved and there is more quality in life after treatment of cancer.
