The brainstorming session and the symposium on Physician Assistants leaders discussed on the potential role of Physician Assistants in the Indian healthcare sector. They observed that a huge gap exists between the healthcare needs and supply in India and greater so in rural India which comprises 70% of the population.

The training that the Physician Assistants receive makes them ideal team players within the healthcare team. Physician Assistants have a great potential to improve the quality of patient care in India. To cater to the needs of the people, it is not enough to produce PA's at the current rate, they added. As regulations and standardization of the PA curriculum is the need of the hour, the policy leaders opined that the easier approach would be to initiate legislation at the state levels while the health Ministry at the centre is reviewing the situation.

Prof. Srinath Reddy, President, PHFI; Dr. Geethalakshmi, Vice-chancellor, Tamil Nadu, Dr MGR medical university; Prof. Shiv Chowdary, Consultant cardiac surgeon, AIIMS, Delhi; Dr. Guru Reddy, Founder, Promoter and Director, Continental Hospitals; Dr. N Krishna Reddy, Vice-Chairman, CARE hospitals; Dr. C Narasimhan, Sr Consultant Cardiologist, CARE hospitals; Dr Avinash Dal, Consultant cardiac surgeon, Virinichi Hospital; President - IAPA were some of the dignitaries apart from PA educators and other policy makers.
