Hyderabad, October 2018: Several floor spaces in the OPD block of Osmania General Hospital, which had peeled off and were uneven due to cementing, thus causing hardships to patients, particularly those being ferried on wheelchairs and stretchers, have now been retiled to give smoother access to various critical departments in the OPD block.

The works were undertaken by Osmania General Hospital in collaboration with City-based health Care NGO, Helping Hand Foundation, which is working with Osmania General Hospital to improve the patient experience and safety in the state-run hospital. It may be recalled that the painting works, lighting and seating capacity for patients and attenders were enhanced in the OPD block, under the same arrangement.

"We had a few areas to the left and right side of Emergency /Casualty Department where the flooring had come out and the cementing had worn out and was uneven; making patient mobility difficult, but these have been repaired, and the patients’ safety and mobility will improve significantly," said Dr. B. Nagender, Superintendent of Osmania General Hospital.

On a daily basis, 300 - 400 patients, and an equal number of attendees’ mobility from Casualty (103) to all critical department like AMC (Acute medical Care 116), NSICU for Neuro Cases, X-ray, Ultra Sound and CT Scan will be a smoother, as earlier due to uneven flooring the paramedical staff had to be very cautious in handling the patients at these uneven points.

Patients with disabilities are breathing a sigh of relief after the re-carpeting has been done, as they were the worst impacted due to their total dependency on wheelchairs and stretchers, and passing through this uneven flooring was a nightmare to most.

Helping Hand Foundation is working closely with Osmania General Hospital in improving facilities across the Hospital. “Our plan is to take one step at a time to improve patient safety, experience and access in the State Hospital, and we are glad that with the active participation of Osmania General Hospital administration we are able to make a positive impact on patients,” said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari of Helping Hand Foundation.
