Metal found inside a man

A 32-year old man underwent stomach operation. What the team of doctors found inside his stomach was hard to believe

It was a shocking moment when a group of doctors in Madhya Pradesh, India, spotted 5 kgs of iron objects inside a man's stomach during his suspected stomach bug operation.

Mohammed Maqsood Khan, who hailed from Satna district of the state, had complained of abdominal pain for close to three months. As the pain persisted later escalated, the 32-year old man was rushed to the state-run Sanjay Gandhi Medical College and Hospital last month in adjoining Rewa district Madhya Pradesh.

Maqsood worked as driver. He was suffering from depression and had begun to eat metal items. Often when a passenger gave him a coin, he would, under depression, swallow those coins.

As Maqsood underwent an X ray, the cause for his abdominal pain was identified - which was due to the presence of metal inside the stomach. Dr Priyank Sharma from Sanjay Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (SGMCH) attended to Maqsood. The patient underwent an abdominal endoscopy so as to view the objects inside his stomach before being operated.

The metal objects included 263 coins, shaving blades and a chain. There were also pieces of glass, four big needles, stones, and a six inch piece of rusted iron shackle. However, his internal organs remain healthy.

According to Dr. Sharma, Maqsood is doing well now and is under observation of a team of experts. His psychological problems are also being treated.
