The Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology Department, KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, in collaboration with Rheumatology Association, Hyderabad Chapter, organized “Clinical Rheumatology Conference” on 5th & 6th January 2019.  This is a first of its kind case conference in the field of Rheumatology in India, initiated by the Rheumatology Department, KIMS Hospitals. The Conference brought together the best doctors who spoke on emerging research and noteworthy topics within the field of Rheumatology. The meeting was designed to expand and share global Rheumatology knowledge, granting event attendees access to valuable content they may not otherwise have available to them.

 

The panel of speakers included International faculty - Prof David Isenberg, Professor at University College Hospital, NHS, UK; Prof Munther Khamashta, Professor at St Thomas Hospital, NHS, UK; Yehuda Shoenfeld, Professor at Sheeba Medical Centre, Israel. The Conference highlighted selected Clinical Cases, with an emphasis on case-based approach, problem-based learning, and eminence-based discussions by renowned Rheumatologists.

 

Mr. B. Bhaskar Rao, MD, CEO, KIMS Hospitals, said, “Our mission is to empower Rheumatology professionals to excel in their specialty. KIMS Hospitals hopes that this Conference will help Practicing Rheumatologists, Rheumatology postgraduates, physicians and other allied specialties, to obtain the best content as well as engage and network with thought leaders from leading national and international organizations.”

We hope that through this event we will reach the practicing Rheumatologists and Rheumatology trainees, and help them experience and share best practices in the field,” said, Prof David Isenberg, Professor at University College Hospital, NHS, UK.

 

More than 300 delegates, including Rheumatologists, Physicians, and postgraduates from various medical colleges from all over India were present.

 

Apart from international faculty, leading faculty from top universities in India were part of this program including – Dr. Amita Aggarwal, Professor at SGPGI, Lucknow; Prof Surjit Singh, Professor at PGI, Chandigarh; Dr. Vineeta Shobha, Professor at St. Johns Medical College Hospital, Bangalore; Aman Sharma, Professor at PGI, Chandigarh; Dr. Debashish Danda, Professor at CMC, Vellore, Dr Ved Chaturvedi from Delhi, Prof V.S.Negi from JIPMER, Dr S. Amin from Mumbai, Prof Rohini Handa from Delhi, Prof Uma Kumar from AIIMS, Dr V. Krishna Murthy from Chennai, Dr Mahendranath from Bengaluru.

 

“Dr. Mouli and his team have taken the pains to arrange a meeting of this kind, and they need special thanks, as people often tend to forget basic clinical sense in the midst of theoretical supersaturation. Why do we organize educational and research activities? It is to improve patient care, irrespective of the nature of our academic activities, whether it is clinical, translational or basic. Any education or research that is not patient-centric, will die its natural death,” said Prof Debashish Danda, CMC, Vellore.

Dr. URK Rao, Prof G. Narsimulu, Prof Liza Rajasekhar (NIMS), Dr. Rajkiran, Dr. A.N. Roy, Dr. Laxmikanth from Hyderabad, were part of the Organizing Committee.

 

Dr. V. Sarath Chandra Mouli, Clinical director, Rheumatology Department, KIMS, is the chairperson for the organizing committee for this Conference.
