HOLISTIC DENTISTRY

HOLISTIC DENTISTRY

Holistic Dentistry is an approach to Dentistry that promotes health and wellness instead of treatment of disease. The approach to Dentistry encompasses both modern science and knowledge drawn from the world’s great tradition on natural healing.

As said by Dr. Grater  “A CLEAN MOUTH WILL LEAD TO A CLEAN BODY”.

Our mouth is the entry point of many bacteria. The oral cavity is the intersection of Medicine and Dentistry, and is the window into the general health of the patient.

ORAL HEALTH: A WINDOW TO YOUR OVERALL HEALTH

It is estimated that 80% of chronic degenerative disease originates in the mouth.

Every part works together in harmony like a Swiss watch.

DIABETES:

According to oral health in America, relationship between type I and type II with periodontal disease has been referred to as 'sixth complication’ of diseases. Diabetes has a true bidirectional relationship with periodontal disease.

The first sign of diabetes is seen in the patient’s oral cavity as dry mouth and developing periodontal disease.

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE:

Periodontal Disease is directly linked to Cardiovascular Disease. A patient with Periodontal Disease is three times as likely to suffer from heart disease. Heart disease, clogged arteries and stroke might be linked to inflammation and infections that oral bacteria can cause.

PREGNANCY:

Increase in hormone levels such as oestrogen and progesterone during pregnancy leads to an increased risk of inflamed gums, leading to Periodontal Disease, and resulting in delivery of premature/low birth weight baby.

HIV/AIDS:

Oral problems such as painful mucosal lesions are the first sign.

OSTEOPOROSIS:

It causes bones to become weak and brittle. It first starts in the oral cavity with periodontal bone loss and tooth loss.

ENDOCARDITIS:

It is an infection of the inner lining of the heart. It typically occurs when bacteria and other germs from another part of your body, such as your mouth, spread through your blood stream and attach themselves to damaged areas in your heart.

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE:

Worsening of oral health is seen as this disease progresses.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:

Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

Floss daily

Eat a healthy diet and limit snacks between meals

Replace toothbrush every 3-4 months if bristles get frayed
