Vitamin D, the Sunshine Vitamin, is vital for your health and wellbeing, and Sunlight is its best source. When you are out in the sun, your skin makes Vitamin D from cholesterol. The sun’s ultraviolet B (UVB) rays hit the cholesterol in the skin cells, thus creating the perfect environment for Vitamin D synthesis to take place. The best time of day to stock up on this glorious Sunshine Vitamin, is early in the morning.

Here’s why it’s so important to get your daily dose of D. Vitamin D prompts the cells in your gut to absorb calcium and phosphorus, which are two minerals essential for maintaining strong and healthy bones, thereby preventing Osteoporosis. Exposure to sunlight, to get some vitally essential Vitamin D, is also said to stave off cancer, depression and muscle weakness.

Sunlight is the best source of Vitamin D. The other sources are Cod Liver Oil, Egg Yolk and Sardines, amongst a handful of foods.

The modern lifestyle keeps people indoors most of the day, and as a result, there is a shocking rise in the incidence of Vitamin D deficiency related problems. Depression is perhaps the most common. To keep happy and healthy, step out into the sun and allow the early morning warmth to work on your body. The other time of day recommended for sun exposure is midday. Grab twenty to thirty minutes of sun at a time, for all round health.
