Safe nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining good health and curing the patients in any disease at a good speed. Nutritionists across the world, thus always press for a healthy and nutritious food. January 10th is observed as a Dietetics Day nationwide by the Indian Dietetic Association (IDA) and this year the theme of this day is ‘Ensuring Safe and Nutritious Food’.
Commemorating Dietetics Day, KIMS Hospital organized a parallel event ‘My Food-My Health Day’. The day is dedicated to create awareness about nutrition for ensuring good health.
Educative information in the form of posters, charts, Food pyramid were displayed covering varied topics including practical tips on losing weight, fad diets, choosing healthy oils for cooking and myth busting sessions
Patient’s attendants, visitors and staff attended the event and participated in interactive session with dieticians. The audience was given an opportunity to ask questions on issues surrounding healthy diet. Above one hundred participants attended the event and clarified their doubts.
Quiz programs and games were also conducted to emphasize on healthy eating practices. Sensitizing audience on’ How to identify Food Alteration at household level ‘was also one of the agenda points during the event. Free Diet counseling and BMI checkups are done to mark the day.
Addressing the audience, Dr B Bhaskar Rao said that Dietitians play an important role in the wellness of population, by delivering knowledge on healthy eating practices, along with prevention and management of diseases. He said that it can make the right decision about what to eat and can personalize and eating plan that's right for you.
A live demo on ‘Cooking Healthy’ was also presented to the audiences explaning the scientific ways of cooking, conservation of nutrients and food hygiene in local language so that people get to learn healthy cooking can be easy and simple.
The IDA is a group of like-minded nutritionists, dieticians, and beavers in the allied health fields. This was started to create awareness among people to highlight the importance of dietetics and nutrition in the maintenance of health and in the prevention and treatment of diseases.
